Life with Pugs

Have you ever...

...gotten a pie in the mail? I hadn't--until last week! Jason's dad's specialty is rhubarb pie. I never had it before I joined the family, and it is SO good! I think he puts ten times as much sugar as the recipe calls for, which makes it super yummy! I was surprised at how well it held up in the mail, but it arrived intact and ready to enjoy. We did enjoy it, and had it eaten in about two days. Yum yum!

Puppy Dog Parties

Daisy and Oscar are becoming party animals! The last two weekends, we have attended doggie birthday parties!

Last weekend, their friend Humphrey (who is a Havanese) turned 6 years old. See, we socialize with dogs other than just pugs! We went to a fun party Saturday afternoon with all sorts of fun dogs.

Humphrey the birthday boy

Mmmmm, doggie birthday cake

C'mon, let me have more cake

Daisy just had to lick the plate clean. Yum!

Humphrey's had enough of this party stuff!

Today we went to a birthday party for just pugs. Pictures of that later!

Happy Anniversary, Jason!

Today Jason and I have been married three years! In some ways, it seems like it has been so much longer than that, but in other ways, it feels like it was just yesterday!

We were married in a tiny chapel in Buffalo Gap, Texas, that was built in 1918. It was a quaint and fun setting!

Our wedding party. The bridesmaids were three of my good friends and my sister, and the groomsmen were two of Jason's good friends, his dad and my brother. The flower girls were Jason's nieces.

Here is my handsome husband!

All in all, it was a very fun (and hot!) day! Marriage has been much harder than I anticipated it would be, but I am very blessed to have such a wonderful husband. When I am discouraged, he looks at the positive and knows that things will get better. Thank you, Jason, for being such a good husband! I love you very much, and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for us!

Happy Birthday, Daisy!

Happy Birthday, Daisy!
Daisy turns two years old today! She came into our lives almost two years ago and brought more joy than I could have ever imagined. Who knew I could love a dog so much? She has kept me going through hard times when not much else was keeping me going. Even though you love to chew all the door stops in the house, I love you baby smalls!

Daisy the day we brought her home!

Jason and Daisy with one of the first toys we bought her (I saved this toy when it became too torn up for the puppies to play with)

Daisy and her daisy shirt!

Wild thing!

Mother's Day Fun

Here is what I sent my mom for Mother's Day. I LOVE pictures and love giving gifts that involve pictures. I found this coaster-making kit at Target and decided it would make a perfect gift for my mom. I included pictures of me and my siblings as babies and then a picture of all of us and Jason last Christmas (pugs included). Vanessa is the top left corner on the blue, Josh is the bottom left corner on the green, and I am on the stripes in the bottom right corner. I think they turned out pretty cute, and now I want a set for myself! My mom loved them and said they were too cute to set glasses on! I guess she can use them as paperweights!

Happy Birthday, Oscar!

Today is Oscar's birthday! Okay, technically we do not know when his birthday is, or really how old he is, but one year ago today he came to live with us. When we adopted him, he was a lost dog that no one ever came to claim, so we have no information on his previous life. At the Dumb Friends League, they guessed he was about 2 years old. So now his birthday is May 14, and he is 3 years old today!

We bought Oscar a cigar for his birthday! Okay, in case you are worried, it isn't real, but it was so cute we couldn't pass it up. We have always teased Oscar about looking like an old man with a cigar anytime toys are hanging out of his mouth, so we couldn't pass this up when we found it. It is too funny, and both pugs love it! It is crinkly, like some baby toys.

The pugs have a birthday hat, but you can see how much Oscar enjoys wearing it. It was hard to get a picture of him in it!

I am so thankful that Oscar is a part of our lives. I can't imagine how his original family must feel without him, but I am so glad we had the opportunity to adopt him. He is the most cuddly, lovable pug you will ever meet. Here is to many, many more years with my little love pug. Happy Birthday, Oscar!

Happy Mother's Day!
Thank you to all of the mothers out there for being so wonderful! May you know how special and loved you truly are. God truly knew what we needed when he created mothers!

A special "Happy Mothers' Day" wish to my mom. The older I get, the more I come to love, appreciate and respect my mother. I realize more every day how faithful and wish she is. It is largely because of her that our family is what it is. I love you, Mom!

Furry Scurry Fun

Last Saturday, we participated in the Furry Scurry, which is a fundraised for the Denver Dumb Friends League, a local animal shelter. Dumb Friends League is actually where we found Oscar, so it is pretty special to me. Anyway, the Furry Scurry is a two-mile walk around Washington Park with your dogs. This is our second year to do it, and it is AMAZING! Last year I could not believe how many people and dogs were there. On the news they said that 6,000 people participated, and I believe that the majority of those people had dogs. It is great fun! The pugs get so excited but both did really well and made it to the end with no problems. But Oscar was pretty pooped once we stopped! We even got to see Moxie after we were finished. It was a great way to spend our Saturday morning!

Poor pugs. Daisy had really bad diarrhea last Friday and Saturday, and then again today, so they were locked in the kitchen most of the day. She kept pooping on the carpet, so we wanted her in on the tile so it would be easier to clean up. Both pugs are so used to being right with us all the time that they cried and cried. Things were better Sunday but then got bad again today. I think it may be some new treats we are feeding her. I was giving them Greenie chips for their stinky breath but I stopped that last Friday. Poor girl has a sensitive tummy!

Out on the Town

Whew, it was a busy (but fun) weekend!

Last night (Sunday), Jason and I went to see Les Miserables -- Oh my goodness, it was INCREDIBLE! I LOVED LOVED LOVED every minute of it and would see it again in a heartbeat! This is Jason's second time to see it, but he still enjoyed it. What a great story and beautiful musical!

Now we have to wait until November to see The Lion King.

I didn't have a cute purse to take to the theater, so I made one! I made a wrap out of this pink velvety fabric to go with my black sleeveless dress, so I made a little bag out of the same fabric. Not as professional or cute as Sharla's bags, but I thought it turned out okay and served its purpose. But this fabric was terribly slippery and hard to sew!

Moxie Mania

Last weekend, Daisy's best friend Moxie spent the weekend at our house while her parents were out of town! It was so fun (except when we were locked out in the rain). All the dogs were pretty worn out by the time Sunday night rolled around. We found out quickly that Moxie loves dirty underwear and socks. She kept snatching them and then taking them under the bed and hiding.

Pugs in action!

Break time!

I love this picture! Oscar is just trying to lay on his bed and relax in the sun, and those silly girls will not stop wrestling. Mom, make them stop!

Puggy Portraits

Okay, call me crazy, but I took my dogs to get their pictures taken a few weeks ago. One of my co-workers took her baby to the Target Portrait Studio and told me what a great deal they had going on their pictures. So of course I had to go! They turned out pretty cute, although I was hoping to get more of the two of them. It is hard to get two crazy pugs to sit still and both look at the camera at the same time for a picture!

The pictures didn't scan great, but you get the idea. Aren't they so cute?

Can it get any worse?

Last night, I had a serious moment of stupidity. Jason was working, so I was busy cleaning the house. I am so proud--my entire house is clean at one time! This never happens! Anyway, as I was cleaning, I decided I would like to have a cup of green tea while I watched American Idol. We have one of those pod coffee makers and recently found some pod tea bags at Target. We bought Tropical Green Tea, which was sounding so good. I prepared the machine and pressed start, and then walked away. But I had forgotten to put a mug underneath! I heard a weird dripping noise and turned around to green tea all over the place! What a mess, but I cleaned it up quickly and prepared myself more tea (in a mug this time). At least I was able to get a good chuckle out of it!

Leah's Terrible, Horrible, No Good Friday morning

Well, something happened to me on Friday that I don't think has ever happened before. I got locked out of my house! I went out to walk the dogs Friday morning as usual. I actually had three pugs, because Moxie was at our house for the weekend. I never take my keys on walks with me but instead use the keypad outside our garage door to open it. So I am running late, as usual, walking three pugs in the rain. I get home, and for some silly reason, the keypad decided it did not want to work! Jason was already gone to work--I didn't know what to do! Finally, after checking most of the downstairs' windows and determining that they were indeed all locked, I worked up the courage to ring the neighbors' doorbell. Luckily, we have GREAT neighbors who let me use their phone and then hang out in their house, even after they went to work, until Jason could come home and rescue me. The dogs, who were pretty wet, stayed in their garage, which worked out perfectly. Needless to say, I was very late for work on Friday. Now I always take my keys on dog walks!
