Help!
I am joining my first book club, and I need your help! I am planning to join a book club where we will revisit many of the classics (books we may have read in school but don't remember or didn't appreciate). Do any of you have any suggestions of classic books that might be good to include? I am to take a few suggestions to our first meeting, so let me know if you have any ideas. I have a few in mind, but I wanted to see what you might suggest. Thanks so much!

I'd say East of Eden by Steinbeck. Or Grapes of Wrath. So many good books! It's hard to choose.

One book that I remember loving when I was a kid was Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. Don't ask me what it was about or why I loved because I don't remember. Obviously I need to re-read it. One I know I didn't like was The Pearl by John Steinbeck but that was just me. Can't wait to hear what you get to read!!

How Green was my valley (llewyln?)... loved it! No matter what they say (Oprah included) Anna Karenina is not worth the year of your life it will take! I loved Les Mis - will take forever too but good. Can't beat Jane Eyre!

Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility are my two favorite classics. PLUS, I think it's Mansfield Park that has a pug in it! I attempted Anna Karenina, read it half way, got bored and just read on Wikipedia the gist of it! It is difficult to read...

I agree with Ann - I just adore East of Eden. Also love Jane Eyre.

What an awesome idea. I always have good intentions of reading classics but end up going for the easy read. Can wait to hear what you start with. Oh yeah, I loved To Kill a Mockingbird, Grapes of Wrath and Catcher in the Rye but everyone has probably already read those.

The Scarlet Letter. I loved that book. And it's relevant for all eternity!

I read the Pearl S. Buck books in school. That was a hundred years ago, but they were really great!
